AIA Sponsors Kunhadi's Safe Crossing on Lycee Francais in Verdun
With the purpose of enhancing road safety in Lebanon, Association des Importateurs d'Automobiles au Liban joined hands with Kunhadi, in October 2012, to install a safe crossing on the entrance of Lycee Francais in Verdun, to keep students safe while crossing the road to their school.
With the sponsorship of AIA, Kunhadi installed the safe crossing on the school's entrance and hosted a road safety conference to inform the students on how to use the safe crossing correctly and safely.
Mrs. Lena Gebrane explained to the students that both pedestrians and drivers have the right to use the road safely. The safe crossing helps them to organize their dynamics by giving each their turn and their responsibility towards the other:
A driver should:
- Slow down in the proximity of a safe crossing
- Respect traffic lights
- Stop the car before the white lines of the safe crossing, when the light is red, allowing the pedestrians to cross on the zebra lines in a straight line without having to zigzag around cars
- Not enter the safe crossing as long as there is a pedestrian standing on the white lines
A pedestrian should:
- Only cross the road on the safe crossing when their light is green
- Not make any sudden moves on the road to allow drivers to expect where and when to find pedestrians crossing the street
We can make our roads safe if we all worked together.
