How Lebanese Dads teach their children to drive
Perhaps the most famous driving instructor in Lebanon is a man who goes by the name of “My Dad”.
Whether the cause goes back to lack of trust the Lebanese people have in official instructors or to an over-confidence in their own skills as drivers, most Lebanese parents prefer relying on themselves to teach their children how to drive, regardless of whether or not they are safe and responsible drivers.
Due to war and other socio-political reasons, the older generation in Lebanon grew up in a country with very loose traffic regulations and where road safety was not a priority on anybody’s list.
When this older generation transfers its – mostly unlawful, risky and ignorant – driving behavior to the younger generation, the result is catastrophic with a toll of traffic fatalities over 500 yearly.
Comedian Wissam Kamal decided to bring this issue to light with a short comical video to display not only the problem of parents as teachers, but also as impatient instructors who belittle safety measures and put the student in constant stress without calming their anxiety.
With this short video, Wissam tries to send his message to parents: choose to send your children to a proper driving school where they could learn the principles of driving abiding the law, to protect their lives and the lives of others.
