New Solar Roadways that improve road safety and save energy
Elite Daily-
Julie and Scott Brusaw have created solar panels that fit together like puzzle pieces to form roads. The solar panels can withstand the heaviest of trucks (about 113,400 Kgs) and can be installed on roads, parkings lots, driveways, sidewalks, bike paths, playgrounds, etc.
Solar Roadways pay for themselves primarily through the generation of electricity, which can power homes and business connected via driveways and parking logs.
Electric vehicles will be able to charge with energy from the sun from parking lots and driveways and after a roadways system is in place, mutual induction technology will allow for charging while driving, cutting down greenhouse gas emissions by 75%.
Solar panels also have additional benefits: they heat up to melt ice and snow (which removes the dangers of skidding on the road in winter), LEDs to make road lines and signage as necessary (they also light up to signal the presence of pedestrians or animals on the road).
This project still needs a lot more funds to be put into effect.
