World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims 2017 - Lebanon
The United Nations announced third Sunday of November as the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.
This day provides an opportunity to draw the public’s attention to the epidemic of road traffic crashes, their consequences, costs and measures that could be taken to prevent them.
In Lebanon, and for the fourth consecutive year, Kunhadi partnered with the Municipality of Sin El-Fil to invite family members and friends who have lost a loved one to road traffic injuries to a gathering at Sin-El garden.
In the presence of the Municipality President, Mr. Nabil Kahhale, parents and friends recounted funny stories and happy memories they shared with their loved one, to remember them with a smile.
Kunhadi then inaugurated the fourth commemoration banner honoring the names of young men and women who lost their lives on the road, so that their memory would encourage other road users to be safer on the road.
At the end of the ceremony, participants wrote letters and attached them to balloons that were sent up to the sky.
Recalling pleasant memories and bonding with others who have experienced the same kind of grief helps to cope with the pain of loss.
Kunhadi urges all drivers from all age ranges to be mindful when on the road and respect road traffic rules; we can stop the loss of lives on the road if we all worked together!
