His final Facebook Post Became An Inspiration After His Death
“We are born in 1 day. We die in 1 day. We can change in 1
day. And we can fall in love in 1 day. Anything can happen in just 1 day.”-
Matthew DeRemer’s last Facebook post is quickly spreading over Facebook inspiring thousands after he was struck and killed by a drunk driver on New Year’s Eve.
The 31-year-old Marine Corps veteran was riding his motorcycle through an intersection around 8 p.m. when Steven Lee Clarke, 59, turned left into the motorcycle’s path. DeRemer was found dead at the scene.
Steven Lee Clarke, 59, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence-manslaughter.
Matthew, who works as a surgical technologist at the West Bay Surgical Center, had also written a Facebook
post earlier that day that has been shared thousands of times, in which he reflected on his past and described his hopes.
In the comment section of his post, Matthew added that his goal for this year was to live as selflessly as possible while battling all obstacles.
This painful event is a reminder of how unexpectedly fatal collisions occur, but more importantly, that the victims of your own reckless driving might be other people who have families and plans.
Being responsible behind the wheel is a decision you make or you ignore. So make the right choice.
