Kunhadi World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims - Lebanon

The United Nations announced the third Sunday of every November World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. This day provides an opportunity to draw the public’s attention to road traffic crashes, their consequences, costs and the measures that can be taken to prevent them.

Kunhadi, in collaboration with the Municipality of Sin El-Fil, invited a number of parents who have lost a child on the road to assemble at the “Traffic Victims Remembrance Garden” inaugurated in 2013 in Sin El-Fil, not only to remember those we have lost, but to emphasize that this common pain that brought us all together can become a power to solve this epidemic.

In the presence of the Sin El Fil Municipality President, Kunhadi unveiled the second memorial holding names of young lives lost on the road. Every family lit a candle in honor of their children’s memory.

“Rather than standing a moment of silent for the memory of our loved ones, I would like to invite you to give a round of applause for the courage of parents who have lost a child on the road. We are with you and together we can stop this tragedy from happening”. Kunhadi Vice President Mrs. Lena Gebrane said during her speech.

This day does not commemorate traffic victims only, but highlights the alarmingly high number of traffic victims in Lebanon amounting to 650 yearly, most of whom are 15 – 29 years old, making road traffic crashes the number one cause of death among the Lebanese youth.

Kunhadi dedicated “Rjaa La Anna”  (Come Back to Us), written by Nadim Moawwad, a young man who after seeing Kunhadi’s first campaign in 2006, decided to change his perception of life and wrote this song for Kunhadi.
