Let's cross the road, civilly
According to the Internal Security Forces in Lebanon, 4447 crashes occurred in 2011.
0.2% (9 crashes) was due to the bad infrastructure.
10.35% (460 crashes) was due to the disrespect of road-crossing regulations.
The solution is simple: pedestrian safe crossing.
Seeing the almost absent knowledge of the use of pedestrian safe crossing in Lebanon, Kunhadi has launched the Safe Crossing campaign through which we strive to spread awareness about the proper usage of the pedestrian crossing by both pedestrians and drivers.
Basing itself on the security state in Lebanon during October, where every day or another a road closed or was cut due to burning tires, acts of vandalism, etc. Kunhadi used a line that played on both meanings "cut" and "cross" the road.
The campaign line reads: Let's cut (which hold the same meaning as "cross" in Arabic) the road, civilly.
By doing so, Kunhadi is asking the Lebanese people to divert their energy from vandalism to improving safety in their country, and road safety in particular.
The campaign was launched on Billboards, LED screens, Scrollers, Unipoles, Radio ad, Magazine ads and on social media.
During interviews and road safety presentations around Lebanon, Kunhadi team explained to students and citizens that pedestrians are the most vulnerable road users and part of the driver's responsibility is to not threaten their safety.
To keep the pedestrian-driver activity well organized and safe, safe crossings were installed on the road.
The safe crossing is a designate place on the road, marked with white stripes, for pedestrians to cross over safely from one side to another. It is intended to keep both pedestrians AND drivers safe and both ought to respect it.
As a driver:
- Slow down when you’re in the proximity of a pedestrian crossing
- Stop your car before the white stripes and traffic lights
- Keep the traffic light in your field of view and respect it
- Allow the pedestrians to cross the road in a straight line without them having to zigzag around cars risking their safety.
As a pedestrian:
- You are NOT to cross the road on any point EXCEPT on the safe crossing lines
- Only cross the road on the safe crossing when the pedestrian light is green
- We are all entitled to cross the road safely without any worry.
- By respecting the safe crossings, you will be contributing with us in making our roads safer for everyone.
In addition to the awareness role this campaign plays, Kunhadi is also installing safe crossings
