Safety Distance Between Vehicles

In traffic jams particularly, drivers tend to approach their car to the next vehicle until there’s hardly any space left to separate the two vehicles, in the false belief that this action will hasten their arrival to their destination.

But as a driver, you should be aware that obstacles occur on the road sometimes unexpectedly, such as a crash, a car waiting to take a turn, a cab driver and a pedestrian having an elongated argument right in front of you, etc.
If there was no space ahead of you, you will either crash into the obstacle or get stuck behind them honking until they moved. Both of these consequences do not result in timesaving, unlike what you thought, and they endanger your life.

That is why when you’re driving, you should always see the back tires of the vehicle in front of you. This safety distance will give you the sufficient time stop AND alert other drivers about the obstacle in front of you. You will be able to steer away safely from the obstacle without having to reverse backwards to get out.

It is especially important to respect the safety distance at winter, when the chances of skidding on the wet road are higher.
