Child Restraint
Many parents may be tempted to place the infant seat forward facing to allow them to view their child more easily. This is a serious error and places the child at a significant risk of injury/death in the event of a crash.
As long as the child’s head weight is greater than his body, it is better to position him rear-facing in the child restraint.
The top of the child head should be well contained within the shell.
A rear-facing child restraint supports the entire head, neck and back in head-on collision.
In head-on crash, the restraint cradles and moves with the child, reducing stress to the neck and spinal cord.
It is the shell of the Child restraint that absorb the forces in a head on crash.
Never position an infant in rear-facing restraint in the path of a frontal air bag. Air bags open at the speed of 320km/h.
